THE INITIAL ENCOUNTER

Bill McLean’s favorite pass time was to ride his old road bike along Dallas Road, follow the shoreline and end at the University of Victoria. He would then return via the same route for a vigorous and satisfying experience.

He always stopped at Cattle Point, which overlooked beautiful Georgia Strait with magnificent Mount Baker in the distance.
Bill always stopped and ate a light lunch then would meditate a while before proceeding.

On one special day he had an extraordinary experience. Bill finished his meditation and was about to ride again, when to his surprise, a jogger glided smoothly towards him. The joggers' movement was exceptional because it was effortless but with good speed. Did his feet touch the ground? . Good form! He stopped at Bill’s bench and sat down. He smiled at Bill then gazed out to sea.

Was Bill rude? He stared at this strange person. A brief description was in order. The jogger’s head was slightly large for his body. He was of medium height with a slight build. His smooth muscular body had a low percentage of fat. He wore a cap but it was apparent he was bald and his skin was smooth and soft. Was he a she or vice versa? His or her eyes were large. The other features were small. The jogging suit fabric was shiny light blue color. This person was indeed different!

Bill decided to stay. He decided to open a conversation with. “Hello, where did you come from?” The person turned his or was it her head, looked at Bill, smiled and answered.  “From over there beyond that hill.” “ Oh,” Bill replied. “I knew that.” It was apparent that this stranger was not about to leave, and nor was Bill. Although his curiosity was intense, Bill instantly felt at ease with this stranger. Bill was a private person, without close friends other than his family, but suddenly, he felt that he had just found a long lost brother, or with such fine features a sister, or with those eyes, a father or grandfather. He sat silently to ponder this encounter.

The friendly stranger gazed quietly off to the distant mountains. Bill realized the visitor had no intention of moving, nor was this a chance encounter. Did this person have a purpose in mind? As if reading Bill’s thoughts, he answered. “You have many questions.  Would you like to talk about them? I have the time.”
Bill felt that this person was quite serious and was not there to pass idle time. “Yes” Bill replied. “ I sometimes think that my questions are my plague and if you are serious I would like to vent even to a stranger.”

The stranger smiled a little smile and replied. “I know your concerns. It is equally important to me to have this opportunity to help you.

Lets get started.”
